The Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association (ANGEA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Stephanie Duran as Deputy CEO.
Ms Duran brings a wealth of experience to the newly created role, having spent more than 25 years working as a foreign affairs specialist for the United States Department of Energy (DOE).
Ms Duran has lived and worked in Asia for more than seven years, serving as Energy Attache and Director of DOE’s China Office from 2021-2024 and more recently as the first DOE representative at the U.S Embassy in Singapore.
“I’m excited to join ANGEA and contribute to very meaningful work being undertaken in collaboration with governments, industries and communities in Asia to enable a reliable, lower carbon energy transition,” Ms Duran said.
“This is a pivotal time in Asia’s energy landscape. Balancing affordability and security of energy with progress on climate targets is critical across the region, particularly in the fast-growing economies of South and Southeast Asia.
“I’m looking forward to adding my skills and experience to the ANGEA team, supporting nations in Asia as they navigate complex pathways through the energy transition.”
In addition to her diplomatic assignments, where she advanced DOE’s priorities and programs across energy and national security, Ms Duran led enterprise-wide strategic planning efforts for DOE’s National Nuclear Security Administration.
She has extensive experience in carbon capture and storage (CCS), including successfully restarting U.S.-China technical cooperation on CCS.
ANGEA CEO Paul Everingham said Ms Duran’s in-depth understanding of Asia and experience in government roles would be invaluable.
“We are very fortunate to find someone of Stephanie’s character, talent and achievements,” Mr Everingham said.
“Stephanie has spent more than two decades working on energy solutions and national security initiatives to meet the world’s evolving needs, with much of the past 10 years spent right here in Asia.
“Her detailed knowledge of our region and its diverse policy environment will enhance ANGEA’s capabilities across a wide range of energy issues.
“In particular, Stephanie’s long track record in carbon capture and storage will add to the region-leading work ANGEA and its members are undertaking to advance cross-border CCS in Asia Pacific.”
