The Asia Natural Gas & Energy Association (ANGEA) is committed to partnering with governments and policymakers to support decarbonisation while acknowledging each country’s specific requirements.

Our member commitments

ANGEA member companies have set targets to reduce the emissions profiles of their own operations and are assisting hard-to-abate sectors in reducing emissions through the deployment of low-carbon technologies and fuels, including carbon capture and storage (CCS), hydrogen, and ammonia.

All ANGEA members have established net zero targets and 2030 emissions reduction plans. Collectively, ANGEA members have publicly announced spending plans of up to $53 billion in low-carbon technologies and greenhouse gas emissions reductions.

Methane Management in Asia

ANGEA is a member of the ASEAN Energy Sector Methane Leadership Program, an initiative of the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE). The program develops capability in methane management in Asia through regional collaboration, technology transfer, networking, knowledge sharing, and capacity building among oil and gas companies, regional and international organisations, and other stakeholders.

ANGEA members companies are acknowledged global leaders in the development of technology and initiatives to monitor and mitigate methane emissions through the natural gas value chain. Our members are working with governments and other stakeholders in Asia to grow the region’s methane management capabilities.

Regional CCS Value Chains

ANGEA and its member companies are working to advance the development of cross-border carbon capture and storage (CCS) value chains for Asia Pacific. The policy framework developed though ANGEA’s Accelerating cross-border CCS in Asia Pacific study can help unlock storage potential in the region that is estimated at up to 3 gigatonnes of CO2 per annum by 2050.

ANGEA member companies have been using CCS safely and successfully for decades and have partnered with governments throughout Asia to accelerate implementation of the technology. ANGEA entered into a strategic MOU with the Global CCS Institute to advance policy development, advocacy and education for CCS in the Asia Pacific.

Carbon Pricing

Carbon pricing should be the primary policy tool to achieve greenhouse gas emissions reduction goals. It incentivises the most efficient and cost-effective emissions reductions while enabling support to affected communities, consumers, and businesses.

Hydrogen and ammonia

Hydrogen and ammonia have been identified by governments throughout Asia as low-carbon fuels that will support the energy transition and progress towards emissions reduction targets. ANGEA member companies are advancing the commercialisation of hydrogen and ammonia applications within the region and beyond, alongside development of CCS technology that will support cost-effective and low-emission production of these fuels.
