ANGEA announces Bill Bullock as new Chairman of the Board

The Asia Natural Gas and Energy Association (ANGEA) has appointed Mr Bill Bullock, executive vice president and chief financial officer at ConocoPhillips, the organisation’s new Chairman.

Mr Bullock’s two-year term formally commenced on March 19, taking over from ANGEA’s inaugural chairman, Nigel Hearne of Chevron. ANGEA CEO Paul Everingham welcomed Mr Bullock to his new role and paid tribute to Mr Hearne, who was a major part of the formation of the Association in 2021.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have a leader of Bill Bullock’s calibre take the reins as ANGEA chairman,” Mr Everingham said.

“I’ve had the privilege of working with Bill during his time on our board and he’s a first-rate operator with great vision, an excellent understanding of global energy markets and very strong policy and business acumen.

“ANGEA and its member companies look forward to the next stage of our organisation’s evolution under Bill’s leadership. At this time, we also reflect on the outstanding contribution Nigel Hearne has made as ANGEA Chairman over the past three years.

“ANGEA was formed because of a strong need for low-carbon energy solutions and greater access to gas and LNG in Asia. But ANGEA was also launched at a challenging time in global history, with the COVID-19 pandemic still having great influence on our industry’s operations and activities.

“It’s a testament to Nigel’s abilities, leadership and passion that ANGEA negotiated those early days and has grown into the influential policy and advocacy organisation that it is today. The need for industry bodies like ANGEA to work with stakeholders in the region and beyond has been clear with the impact on Asia’s energy security due to the Russia – Ukraine conflict and now the pause by the U.S. on approvals of LNG export permits.”

Bill Bullock said he was excited to take on the Chairmanship at a pivotal time for the world’s energy landscape.

“Asia will be at the centre of growth in global energy demand for decades to come,” Mr Bullock said.

“It’s crucial that the region is able to access affordable and reliable energy to drive economic growth, while also reducing its reliance on coal and making tangible progress on climate targets.

“Natural gas and LNG are fuels that can facilitate that balance but it’s critical that all available levers are pulled to ensure adequate future supply – particularly so in the U.S., where the recently announced export approvals pause is of significant concern to Asia.

“I’m looking forward to working even more closely with Paul and the ANGEA team in tackling this and other key energy policy issues that matter for Asia.”

Mr Clay Neff, president, International Exploration & Production, will succeed Mr Hearne as Chevron’s representative on the ANGEA Board.
